The SaYa Versatekk Carrier vs. The SaYa Semistretch Carrier: A Comparison
I bought a SaYa Versatekk at Mama.Baby.Love’s Expomom booth. I’ve been wearing it the past few days and I just wanted to share my observations about it and compare it with the Semistretch version.
- The SaYa Versatekk is easier to put on and take off. It being nylon and spandex, it slides unto your baby effortlessly and is less prone to tangles and knots. If you do tangle up while wearing the Versatekk, it’ll actually still be manageable. A tangle in the semistretch version is SaYa hell.
- The Versatekk’s plus is also its minus. Because it’s smoother and stretchier, I find it hangs lower than the semistretch and gives Basti more room to squirm. When carrying Basti in front facing me, he can lean back, almost to the point of spilling from the carrier, something he couldn’t do with the semistretch.
- Again, since it’s stretchier, I found I had to get the smallest size. I initially thought I would get a size 1, but eventually got the size 0 because I found the size 1 too stretchy! Basti was spilling out of the carrier! Never mind the sharing-with-hubby part. I’ll teach him how to use the ring sling.
I like wearing my SaYa with the sleeves over my arms:
(Note: Do you guys like my hair? I had it fixed by Cherry at Toni & Guy. I no longer curse when I see myself in the mirror)
But today I scrunched up the sleeves to hang like straps over my shoulders and I found that this is the best way to do it with the Versatekk. More stable and less prone to slipping off. (Excuse the bagong-paligo look)

Overall, I’m happy with the Versatekk too. The reason I bought it is because I want to take Basti swimming and the material is very much like the Gypsy Mama Water Wrap. I’m going to try showering and swimming with Basti in the SaYa Versatekk. I imagine it’s going to be a great travel carrier since it’ll dry easily and is really quick to put on and off. No SPF information on their material though. I think I’ll ask about that.
If you’re looking for tips on how to wear the SaYa carrier, I have posts on that here and here. Here’s to more SaYa success!
i love it eli!!!! thank YOU!! let me repost π
Ang bilis mag reply!! π
thanks for the review..i actually have this Versatekk and bought it before my baby was born, i wasn’t able to try it first before buying it. it ended up being so big for me and my baby and everytime i wear it my baby almost faces my tummy, not my breasts :)) but i still wear it π
Hi Chow! That’s how it was with the Size 1. I hope it doesn’t hurt your back though?
Lovely SaYa color! We got a Versatekk before too but switched to SSK because the fabric didn’t agree with us too much. Buti you don’t find it too hot to wear in this weather?
It’s just a tiny bit hotter but Basti doesn’t seem to mind!
I love my Versatekk!
Question though, do you wear it the same way you put on the SKK? I still get confused when putting it on especially when in rush =) For some reason, the Saya label always comes up upside down.
Hope you can come up with the pictured instructions on how to put it on like the one you did with the SKK =)
Hey Anna! I put on the Versatekk in the exact same way I put the SSK on! As in no difference whatsoever! Ok lang if the label is upside down. As long as the seam is there for the support, then it’s all good!
Hi Eliza!
Love your website. Super helpful. π I just gave birth last November 25, 2011 with my 2nd baby. I’ve heard about baby wearing and I wanted to give it a try this time, especially she’s the type who wants to be held even after feeding, burping, etc. in short, gusto lagi naka karga. Hehehe. I’m not sure if it’s because we left her for a week in the nursery for antibiotic therapy (due to leaked BOW) so she kinda’ got spoiled in the “please carry me department” hahaha! So I thought why not try baby wearing since carrying her would mean I can’t do any chores or errands man lang kasi mahirap din naka bitbit kay baby. By the way, I’m really glad I came across your website when i started to search for a carrier. It’s such a relief to find a very helpful website such as yours. =)
Anyway, I’m going to buy the Saya Versatekk carrier. I wanted the SSK but out of stock pa rin. I’ve been waiting for 3weeks nah kaya VT na lang. I need your opinion since I’ll be ordering the carrier online and won’t really fit and try the actual item. My problem is the sizing. I’m 5’3″. My weight before I gave birth was 163lbs. and now I’m 145lbs. My shoulder to hip length is 24-25inches. I asked the lady from Indigo if i’ll fit in Size 1 but she suggested baka daw masyado malaki for me so she told me to get a size 0. I know, dapat I should trust her kasi she knows best but syempre, the paranoid side of me hihingi pa rin nang second opinion from someone who really knows the mechanism of Saya carriers. Hehehe. I hope you won’t mind. π Okay lang ba yung maliit na size? I mean worried din ako kasi baka masyadong fit for me and my baby would be uncomfortable? What do you think sis?
Thanks so much!
Hi there! Thank you so much for the kind words. π
Anyway, Dailyn of Indigo was right. I’m 5’4″ and heavier than you and I still use a size 0. Don’t be intimidated at how “tight” it feels. It’s really stretchy – don’t be afraid to really pull on the fabric when you wear your baby. It really needs to be snug. With the Versatekk, if you get a size that’s too big, the stretchy fabric will be too loose, won’t fit well and will give you a backache. Worse, there’s the danger of baby falling out! Stick with the size 0 and holler if you need any help. π
Super thanks for this Eliza! A lot of moms have been asking me the pros and cons of VTB and SSK and I always point them to your blog. I find your babywearing gear reviews and instructions really, really helpful!
More power! ^_~
Thanks Armi! I appreciate the vote of confidence. π
Hello, I’m francesca. Just want to ask my right size if im about 5’8″ and weighs about 65kls when im not preggy. I want to buy my first saya, the versa tekk saya carrier. Is size 1 the right size for me? Hope u can help me with this, thank you! π
Hmmm, in your case I think it’s really best if you try on the VTB yourself. There are certain colors with more stretch than others. You’re tall and slim, so the size 0 might still work for you. But you’ll have to try it on! (Not much help, oops)
Hi! Ive been wearing my son since he’s 6 weeks old, now he’s 3 mos. and Im wondering if its safe to wear him using the Tangan position with his legs out?
Hi! Are you the same person who sent a message on the FAB FB page? π
Anyway, if you’re referring to the front-facing position, the answer would be, “not recommended”. Studies have shown that babies in the front-facing position may develop back, hip and leg problems. Wearing your baby facing you, with legs out, is considered the best position to babywear. Hope this helps!
Hi! I am planning to buy a SAYA as my first carrier and I’m so excited about it. I wanted to have the SSK printed teal and i found a seller online having it on stocks but its only medium size. I’m wondering if it would fit me.. My height is 5’2″ and my weight before i was pregnant is 47 kgs. I haven’t weighed myself yet since my little princess is born.. and she is a month and a half old.. Would SSK medium suits me??
Hi! I’m 5’4″ and much heavier than you. I wear a large on the SSK. I think medium might be good for you. Try to fit it if you can. π
Hi Eliza. Im about to purchase my 1st Saya for my 2nd baby. He’s 10kls already. Im 5’3 and 121 lbs. what size should i get for the SSK and VTB? Nasa province kasi so ang hirap magkamali in case i purchase online. Thank you and God Bless you. π
Oh my, this is hard. I would say you may be size 0 in the VTB and probably a medium in SSK. There are small variations between the colors though and it would be great if you could really try it on. No dealers in your area?
No dealer here in Palawan. Haven’t really heard of SaYa or the ring sling here. Just came across your blog and found out about it. Still thinking if im getting the SSK or the VTB. Any suggestions?
For Palawan, I would say SSK. It’s really much more presko and I love it for outdoors.
Oh great. Thank you. Will get that in medium. Thank you very much Eliza. Have a nice day ahead.. π
hi.. can you suggest what is more presko to use.. SSK or VTB? i am so interested in trying this carrier for my 6weeks old baby..
The SSK is more presko. It’s like wearing a t-shirt! π
thanks eliza.. your blog really helps! i’m planning to buy the small one.. im 5’2 around 54kls now but my pre-pregnancy weight was range from 48-50kls.. do you think the small size will best fit for me?
Yes you would either be a small or a medium. Best to fit! π
Hello!
I’m 7 month pregnant and I really want to buy SSK Saya as early as now. But I would lime to try it on first. My problem is I only knew online sellers like Indigo, Mamababylove and Asya’s Cradle. I was just wonderng if there’s a retail store who sells Saya carriers where I can try it myself before purchasing one.
Thank you!
Hi! Try Babyland in Shaw and in Eastwood Mall. π You can also visit the SaYa showroom in Ortigas Center. Just send a message through the SaYa Baby Carrier page on Facebook. π
Hi Ms. Eliza. I need help.
I already have one, it’s SSK. I forgot the size lang. Where can I see the size ba? There’s no tag in the saya itself eh. Thanks. π
Uhoh! There’s supposed to be a tag talaga! π Maybe get in touch with SaYa na lang to help you out?
