A Post for The Painter

January 14, 2011

I hardly write about what makes The Painter’s Wife, well.. The Painter’s Wife. After all without the The Painter, I would just be.. The Wife. And then where would we be?

I met Orley at a sketching session at my friend Carina’s house back in August of 2008. We were married by November. It was THE classic whirlwind romance.

A picture of the first day I met The Love of My Life

His art is part of why I love him so, mostly because his work is so tied to him, heart, mind, body and soul. He breathes art, lives it and speaks through it. If you meet Orley, he’s not much of a talker. In fact, you’d be lucky to ever meet him at all. Orley would rather stay home and paint than do anything else. Except maybe go out and take reference pictures for his next painting. I’ve gotten quite used to going out without him.

They always ask him: What is your inspiration? He always answers this with some trite and template answer. But really, to him, art is almost never about inspiration. His discipline in his work is outstanding and his focus, sometimes unnerving.

It’s quite funny how the two of us get along so well even if we come from very different backgrounds. Oh, our relationship isn’t perfect (but whose is anyway) but it’s fun and we never run out of things to talk about.

I am ridiculously proud of him, and I am his number one fan. I LOVE it when he joins competitions and I love it more when he wins. The last time, he won the International Artist Magazine competition for this painting:

"The Seekers"

He will be receiving recognition for this in an awards ceremony later next month at the Palace. For Noynoy, he will wear a barong.

But more than any award, there’s the reward of seeing a painting on his easel that just tugs at my heart:

Can’t wait to show you guys when it’s done.
